TITLE: Volan An Twazyèm (The Third Wheel)
DESCRIPTION: Meggy experiences trouble in paradise with Wes.
ADDITIONAL TAGS: [HASH]WesGibbins [HASH]ChristopheEdmond [HASH]Meggy [HASH]Wes/Meggy [HASH]Wes/Laurel [HASH]HTGAWM
CHARACTERS: Wes Gibbins/Christophe Edmonds, Meggy, Laurel Castillo (Mentioned)
NOTES: Might be a collection of Wes/Meggy one-shots, haven't decided. This first chapter takes all of the dialogue from the S3E3 ("Always Bet On Black") script. Might change that in the futurebut the script is actually a tad boring. The title roughly translates to 'The Third Wheel' in Haitian Creole. Wes is half Haitian so.......Thanks Google!

She heard him close the door, trying as softly as he could not to make a sound. But the hinges creaked and she knew. He was trying to hide something from her and it made her uncomfortable. Wes had never kept things from her before.
Meggy noticed he had been acting strange ever since school started back up. He didn't smile at her with his usual crooked grin, and when they made love something always seemed to be a little different than before. She combed her mind for an answer, not understanding what the issue could be. Taking slow, deep breaths, she gripped both sides of the sink with her hands and looked at her reflection in the mirror. The answer was a simple one. The answer angered her, irritated her even, but she was not shocked. In fact, a small part of her mind had prepared her for this a while ago.
She took another deep breath and ran a hand through the soft coils in her hair, twisting a lock around her finger in thought. What was she going to do? Confront him about it and tell him off? Meet Laurel in the parking lot and stomp the hell out of her for..For what exactly? Laurel didn't take Wes. Not yet, at least. Meggy bit her bottom lip, considering the best solution - one which didn't involve fists, yelling, or anger.
She stepped out of the bathroom and sat on the edge of the bed, waiting for Wes to finish his secret phone call, thinking of what to say. It occured to her that the situation was not fair, that it wasn't right Wes should want Laurel instead of her, but she resolved that not everyone is meant to be together. No matter how much Meggy wanted him..
Wes walked in, a surprised look clear on his face.
"Sorry, I was just, uh.."
"Calling Laurel?" she finished for him.
"I know.." he replied a bit sheepishly.
"I'm about to start my E.R. rotation," she said, matter-of-factly. "And people's lives literally will depend on me. Instead of me focusing on that, I've been stressing about what to get you for your birthday while you're into some other girl."
"It's not like that."
She pursed her lips, a certain agitation building up in the middle of her chest. "I want to believe you. But then I see your face when her name shows up on your phone."
Wes sat down next to Meggy on the edge of the bed, his eyebrows raised with a questioning look. "My face?"
"You get... happy. In a way, that makes me happy for you. Because God knows that you deserve nothing but good things at this point in your life."
The agitation in Meggy's chest turned into anxiety at her confession. It was true - Every time Laurel called him, every time he got a chance to talk about her, his face..
Wes reached over and cupped her hand with both of his, the warmth immediately comforting Meggy's anxiety. "You're the good thing in my life. Not Laurel. It's you." Meggy nodded, slightly reassured by his words. The two hugged, Wes squeezing her tight around her waist accompanied by a kiss on the cheek. "You don't have to get me anything for my birthday."
"Too late." She chuckled.
But she still didn't believe him. She would be on her guard, still preparing for the worst. Laurel was definitely going to be a problem until Wes made up his mind. Suddenly, meeting Laurel out in a parking lot didn't seem so bad.
